CUPE EMERGENCY FUNDS
The last 2 years have been challenging for British Columbians. Our members have been hard at work protecting the public through COVID, wildfires, the heat dome, and catastrophic flooding, but we ourselves are not immune from the impacts of these events.
CUPE 8911 is affiliated to CUPE Metro and CUPE BC, both of which have set aside emergency funds for members that have experienced financial hardship:
- CUPE METRO – An Emergency Relief Fund (formerly called the Pandemic Compassionate Relief Fund) has been designated for affiliated locals to assist members whose income has been reduced and are in need of support due to COVID – 19 and environmental emergencies. Affiliated Locals apply on behalf of members whose family income has been negatively affected and a sub-committee reviews the submissions and allocates gift cards based on the number of submissions, the type of need, and the size of the local.
- CUPE BC – A Disaster Relief Fund (formerly the BC Wildfire Account) has been established to assist members impacted by wildfires, flooding, and mudslides to help members who need financial assistance to make it through these situations. Affiliated Locals apply on behalf of members who are financially impacted by these environmental disasters; members meeting the criteria are eligible for $500.
If you have experienced financial hardship related to the pandemic and/or environmental emergencies, please contact me at carrie.james@ecpbc.ca or 778-385-0395 and provide a brief description of the hardship you have faced so that I can submit an application on your behalf. The information you provide is required for the applications but in all other ways confidentiality will be maintained.
