Attention members:
Re: Sick Leave, STIIP, and Attendance Management
Late yesterday, management posted on e-connect a document titled “Short-Term Illness and Injury Plan (STIIP) Update & FAQ” despite an active grievance being filed on management’s implementation of new Sick Leave & STIIP provisions in the Collective Agreement.
We continue to be disappointed and frustrated that despite repeated attempts, management continues to fail to meaningfully meet with the Union to discuss or resolve points of contention, ultimately culminating in grievances related to the pro-ration of vacation, public holidays, increments, protocols and procedures governing STIIP, protocols and procedures for collection and protection of employees’ personal information, and Attendance Management being referred to Arbitration.
As these policy grievances make their way through the grievance process, we have been busy developing and rolling out training for our union representatives to increase our capacity to respond to situations and defend members. If, for some reason, management wishes to speak to you regarding your attendance, questions your eligibility for STIIP, denies your STIIP benefits, or if you are involved in a conversation with management regarding any type of accommodation, including medical accommodation, we recommend that you request union representation.
We continue to be able to resolve individual issues and situations that are coming up; however, it is clear that in order to meaningfully address all of the points of contention, it will likely require the assistance of a third party to bring these issues to a conclusion.
If you find yourself in a situation where you need union representation, you can do this by asking the management representative to arrange it either before or during a meeting, by contacting us at grievance@ecpbc.ca, or by calling 604-800-6088 (and leaving a message).
In solidarity,
